To support worldwide efforts in reducing carbon emissions, Bosworth Properties have started a new project planting trees in order to help reduce our carbon footprint.
In collaboration with Earthly, Bosworth Properties have commissioned the planting of 100 Mangrove trees in Madagascar. The number was chosen as an initial commitment as this is roughly how many tenants Bosworth accommodates across their various student accommodation buildings in Leicester – so 1 tree for each tenant!🌳
Currently in Madagascar, forest restoration is a critical issue. With approximately 75% of its species not being found anywhere else in the world It is of huge importance to protect what is left and help to reforest areas that have been previously destroyed.
Mangrove forests are excellent for restoration, not only do they store more carbon than traditional forests, they also provide multiple benefits to coastal communities like storm protection, water filtration and livelihood generation. Each mangrove tree removes around 308kg of CO2 from the atmosphere over the course of its life-cycle of around 25 years. This means that within one year, the trees we have planted will have removed around 1,232 kilograms of carbon from the atmosphere!🤩
This investment is seen as the first as many for Bosworth Properties helping to fight climate change, with George Price, Marketing & Operations Manager of Bosworth Properties, commenting: “We recognise that as a business and family run company we have a responsibility to ensure that we are conscious of the impact we have on the environment, and that we take steps to ensure our carbon footprint is minimised, and we also look for opportunities to give back to the planet.”
“We see the 100 trees as our first step on what we anticipate will be a long term project that we will look to grow over the coming months and years!”
